As everyone knows, Mangaung is under severe financial strain due to the lack of leadership, capacity, financial skills and management abilities as well as mismanagement by the top leadership and management of the city.
A big part of the problem is caused by residents and businesses that do not pay their municipal accounts, or simply dont worry if their accounts don’t worry when they dont recieve an account for months.
The city is again acting against residents with outstanding accounts in order to improve its financial woes
If you want to prevent your water from being interrupted, or a reconnection fee being charged after your water is disconnected, here are a few tips:
- Pay your municipal accounts on time (This includes rates and taxes, sanitation, water en refuse removal)
- If you dont recieve an account, visit the municipal offices to find out how much you must pay and to get your monthly accounts
- If you owe a large amount, visit the municipal offices to find out if you can pay it off.
- If there is a problem with your municipal account, you must dispute it within 30 days, otherwise the MMM policy will not stop action from being taken against you
- If you get a warning that your account is in arrears, don’t ignore it. Visit the municipal offices as soon as a matter of urgency
- Even prepaid meters can be restricted due to outstanding rates and taxes
- Disconnections do SOMETIMES happen just before office hours ends and weekends, when the people who work with finances are not at work. So dont even take the chance and think you will just go in and pay if you do get disconnected. This might leave you disconnected over a long weekend or overnight.
- Make sure your tenants know they must iediately inform you if a notice is delivered to the property.
